We are delighted to welcome Wraith as our newest WvW Commander.  Not only is he a great player, but he fills a Pacific size hole in our ingame leadership.

Let's all congratulate Wraith!! :beer_mug:  :beer_mug:  :beer_mug:

Grats to Earendil and Cheetah - our newest 'official' WvW Commanders!
Posted by Courin on 06 February 2013 - 11:38 AM

Hearty congratulations go out to Earendil and Cheetah, who both now are proudly sporting their spiffy blue Commander Tags!

Both were 'walking the walk and talking the talk' of AB WvW Commander even before they got the AB rank, and now they can walk and talk just a bit louder.

Sadly, I haven't got pics to celebrate their achievements yet - perhaps you guys could upload some for us all to "oooh and ahhhh" over?

Be sure to watch the PvP Discussion Thread for info on planned WvW events, and join us there!

Basin Commander Tag Fund Raiser!!
Posted by Courin on 26 January 2013 - 01:27 PM

The Amazon Basin, along with many other guilds, recently held a strategy meeting where we re-committed to our vision of what we want SBI to be - a server that we can all call 'home' because it makes all players feel welcome regardless of their interests in the game.

In addition to the efforts we've put into building our community, our members have worked hard to earn the various upgrades that we currently enjoy, which benefit all of our players. All of these things factored into our decision to remain a part of the SBI community.

On a very positive note, the recent changes present an opportunity that perhaps wasn't available to us before in terms of our involvement in WvW. With the departure of some of the bigger WvW focused guilds from SBI, there is a real need for others to step into now empty roles, and a chance for those who are less familiar with WvW, or who take a more casual approach to it, to dive into that aspect of the game. We have been saving funds in our Guild Bank to subsidize half the cost of a Commander Tag for our WvW Commander team. We are currently in a position to do our first subsidy, and are close to a second, and so it seems like a rather serendipitous occurrence.

To that end, we are inviting members who want to help with this initiative to join us in a "Basin Commander Tag Fund Raiser" in game. There are going to be several ways folks can contribute, should they so desire. These include:

  • Organized runs of Explorable modes of dungeons, with an option to have 'reward' money be donated to the Guild Bank. This is a great chance to spend time with your guildies, tick off a few explorable dungeons on the 'in game to do list', and earn rewards for the guild, both in terms of influence and funds.
  • Organized crafting material runs, with proceeds from the sale of those mats to be donated to the Guild Bank.
  • Personal donations of funds.

Our first planned event is a dungeon run is set for Friday February 1st, and we'll start at the beginning, with Ascalon Catacombs. We will begin around 6 pm EST, and have parties forming up throughout the night, so even if you can't make it at that time, we should be able to make a party up for you.

For anyone who hasn't done it yet, AC explorable has a recommended level of 35 for explorable mode, and has 3 possible paths. The rewards for each path are 70% of the experience for your next level, between 12-26 silver (depending on level and NOT including bonuses from consumables like Omnom Bars), 60 Ascalonian Tears (dungeon reward trophy), and 1880 Karma per path, PLUS drops in game. Like all dungeons in the game, even if you don't have the waypoint closest to the dungeon, just being in the zone will allow you to join in, and since AC is set in the Charr starter area, it's freely accessible to all. Additionally, your character need not have completed Story mode to join in; only the 'instance starter' needs to be at the door and have done story mode. Each party would have a 'leader' who knows the dungeon and could help each team through as needed. Additionally, we're hoping to have some 'special guests' join us for the event...... :whistling:

A sticky thread will be created where details of each event will be posted, and will allow folks to sign up and indicate if they felt they could lead a team if needed. Further 'Fund Raiser' events will be announced there on the forums and in Guild Chat as they get scheduled.

To make it clear, there is absolutely NO OBLIGATION involved. If you want to come along on any of these runs, you are NOT required to contribute to the Commander funds. If you want to donate, it can be any amount you choose. If you don't want to donate, your participation alone will be welcome and helpful!

Hope to see you then!!!  :)

January 2013 Fund Drive, aka Feed our Server Meter!
Posted by ceolstan on 05 January 2013 - 11:01 PM
TPJ, our founder and chief Community Admin, has started a Fund Drive for 2013.  It's been a little over 2 years since the last one, but once again, we need to ask for donations from our players.  Here is TPJ's message:

A Message from TPJ

Thankfully, our previous fund drive raised enough money to keep us running for two and a half years. However, our next server payment will use the remainder of our Basin funds.

Asking everyone to help isn't any fun for me, but y'all know the way things work by now. $99 a month keeps our dedicated server accessible to the world. That is our major cost, but there are other minor things that tend to add up as well.

As mentioned, our last fund drive netted us enough money to secure our server on a preferred rate due to being able to sign a two-year contract. It was only a difference of about $10 a month, so there isn't a huge need to duplicate those efforts. However, I do need to ask those of you who can afford to help to please send what you can to keep us alive.

Our Donation Page includes buttons to subscription plans as well as a button for just a straight 'any amount' donation. If you'd rather drop something in the mail to me, my address is listed on that page as well.

Many thanks to everyone here - not just those who contribute. We've been around for a long damn time, and our members--both Basin and Community--are the main reason people feel comfortable calling this place 'home'.

Announcing CoonerTheRed--New PvP Coordinator
Posted by ceolstan on 08 September 2012 - 07:45 AM
Folks, with the game nearly two weeks old, and with Basiners playing in WvW as well as sPvP, it's time for us to announce our new PvP Coordinator: CoonerTheRed. :)

Cooner is a long-time organizer of PvP here in AB.  He led several GvG teams, and took AB teams to hold the Hall of Heroes in GW1.  Now that Guild Wars 2 is here, we're very pleased that Cooner will be taking over the formal position of PvP Coordinator.  As you can see, Cooner's hit the ground running with the call for WvW Commanders.  PvP doesn't happen because of one person; PvP happens because people pitch in to make it happen.  Cooner is here to do what he can to facilitate Basiners' efforts to have fun in PvP.

Please join with us in welcoming our new PvP Coordinator, and show a big round of support!

Cheers!

Guild Wars 2--Official Launch Information (Server=Stormbluff Isle)
Posted by ceolstan on 23 August 2012 - 02:43 PM
We're excited that Guild Wars 2 will launch on August 28 (Ancient 1's birthday!!!!), and even more excited that the pre-purchase head start will be at 12:01am PDT (GMT-7) on August 25.  Also, ArenaNet has announced that for some people, the head start could be up to three hours ahead of that!!!!

All information (besides Contacts) has been wiped.  Everyone starts afresh, and our guild will have to be created.  To handle this process smoothly, we recommend that you read the following process.

1.  Server Selection: Stormbluff Isle – Select Stormbluff Isle as your server.  We are in the Stormbluff Isle Community Alliance.  We are confident that the close association we have with the other guilds on our server will be beneficial to everyone, whether it be for sPvP, PvE, or WvW.

2. Sign-Up Process – Once you have created a character, make a post in our Sign Up Thread for the Amazon Basin Guild Wars 2 Guild following the format of forum name//character name.  We will invite you as soon as we can.

Note:  Guild Creation –  Leadership Team and Game Council will create the Amazon Basin as soon as it is possible.  During the next few days, we will work toward increasing our guild cap.  Since the increases cost a significant amount of gold for the higher levels, we may be soliciting donations from members to help defray costs.  However, it makes sense to increase our cap at this stage, when people are likely to play around the clock and we know we have the numbers online to raise the cap.

Here's to the start of the next phase of our guild!!!!

Please congratulate
FunkyJam & Courin
We are extremely pleased to announce that outstanding Basiners FunkyJam and Courin have joined the ABGW Leadership Team. Both have been issued the traditional broom, mop, and bucket, but in size XXXL as befits the scope of their jobs. Once the ABGW floors are scrubbed and the lavatories cleaned, our new admins will be turning their attention both to bringing GW2 on with a bang and continuing to support GW1. Change is in the air. All of us in ABGW are very fortunate that such exceptionally talented people are willing to step forward in support of our community.

A Fond Farewell to Jayling--ABGW Founder Leadership
Posted by ceolstan on 25 July 2012 - 09:14 PM
It is with great fondness, tinged with no little sadness, that we note Jayling's departure from the Leadership Team.  Jay is one of our Founding members.  One of the original Leadership Team, Jayling was active in the organization of ABGW before the game was released.  Her eye for detail and her ability to keep abreast of the news in various fansites was nothing short of astounding.  She has been a tremendous resource.

Additionally, she greatly facilitated the administration of our ingame guild structure.  Not many people remember this, but when Guild Wars first launched, there were no alliances and no alliance chats.  Jayling responded by buying not one or two versions of the game, but enough so that she could have an account in each of our guilds!  This enabled her to jump to and from each guild to check on things.  She was also a fixture on TeamSpeak and our now defunct IRC channel.  She was there with the glue to help us hold together.

Truly ABGW owes Jayling a huge debt of gratitude.

Jayling, thank you very much, and we wish you all the very best in your retirement.

Guild Wars 2: Beta Weekend #3—Our Practice Run for Release
Posted by ceolstan on 19 July 2012 - 09:18 AM
ArenaNet has announced that prior to the start of BWE3 (and again at the end of it), they will be wiping all character, item, guild, and server information.  As it stands, it looks like the only thing you retain from BWE 1 & 2 is your contacts list.

Anet’s recent blog post suggest that guilds will be slightly different in BWE3.  Therefore,  we plan to use this weekend as a trial run for how we get the guild up and running for the Live Release.

Here’s how the process will work.

Server – Select Stormbluff Isle as your server.  If that fills up, use Ehmry Bay.  We are forging a strong alliance with a variety of other guilds, many of whom we’ve played with in the past.   After the Meet & Greet we held with over 90 representatives, we planned to form on Stormbluff Isle, with Ehmry Bay as backup.  Our alliance sees itself as committed to the server community, so we’re confident that we can find friendly people to play with in PvE, WvW, and PvP.

We are not sure if 'guesting' will be available or not; nor is it clear if free server transfers will be offered this weekend either.

Guild Creation and Sign-Up Process – Leadership Team and Game Council will coordinate to create our guild as soon as we can.  We will post the Guild Name in a new sign-up thread in the forums called "Sign-up Thread for BWE3."

Once you have created a character, make a post there with your character name, and one of us will invite you ASAP.

We do not know if guild creation will work the same way this weekend, so just in case of any “surprises,” please keep an eye on these forums.  This is where we will keep you informed and up to date.

Additionally, we will communicate with people on TeamSpeak and via our Alliance’s IRC channel.

About Gems – ANet has stated that there will NOT be any free gems, but they will be testing their Gem Purchase mechanic, with any gems purchased during BWE3 transferring over to your Live Release account.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to do a 'dry run' for the Live Release of the game, and we appreciate your patience and feedback as we prepare for the big day!

--Leadership Team and Game Council

Server Alliance Meet & Greet on AB TeamSpeak: July 18 N. America, July 20 Oceanic/Euro
Posted by ceolstan on 14 July 2012 - 05:21 AM
Our Alliance will be having two Meet and Greet gatherings.
  • North Americans/Insomniac Euros:  the gathering will be on Wednesday, July 18 from 9:30-10:30pm Eastern (GMT-4)/8:30-9:30 Central.
  • Oceanics/Euros: the gathering will take place on Friday, 20 July, at 9pm Sydney/Melbourne time/7pm Perth time.  (11:00 am GMT)
The Amazon Basin is honored to host this meeting on our TeamSpeak server. Please join us in meeting with our fellow alliance members!

The meeting will also be side-barred with the Quarrel Falls IRC channel.  If you need help getting started, here's the Quarrel Falls IRC information: clicky.  The Sentinels also have a browser-based client based here.  Please note that you may need to register on the Sentinels forum to view some of the information.  Just drop Cosian a line to say that you're with AB.

This is an excellent opportunity to meet some of the players we'll be teaming with.  It's only a couple of days before the final BWE, which is again a great way to hook up with some of the players on our server.

Come join us for a fun meeting!

Edit:  We have learned that Quarrel Falls server is not available for BWE3.  Please come to the meet and greet to meet our allies, and also to talk about worlds.

Guild Wars 2 Launches 28 August, 2012
Posted by ceolstan on 28 June 2012 - 11:49 AM
Jude and Kitt posted about the announcement here.

We're very excited about the upcoming launch of Guild Wars 2.  This will bring changes to our guild as we transition to the new game, while providing guild support for our players interested in continuing their Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars 1.

Needless to say, we are looking toward some sprucing up around here (new forum skins would be nice, for example).  In the mean time, the next and final Beta Weekend will be July 20-22.

We hope to see all of our old friends in Guild Wars 2, and we look forward to making new ones!

Basin Beta Server Change--June 8
Posted by ceolstan on 08 June 2012 - 09:29 PM
We are going to change servers!

We will be moving to Quarrel Falls.  This is currently a LOW population server, but we expect it to grow.  Also, we will have enough room for ALL Basiners to be there!

Additionally, for those of you who enjoy World v. World, we'll be playing alongside some big names from Guild Wars 1 PvP: War Machine, EVIL, and old friends from PUG and Knights Templar, as well as OO, a French guild well-known in DAoC.

To move to Quarrel Falls, choose "World Selection" on your character selection screen.  Then choose Quarrel Falls.  You will want a Permanent Transfer.  These are FREE until noon PDT on Saturday, June 9.  PDT is GMT-7, so noon PDT is 3pm Eastern, 2pm Central time.

We hope to see you all on Quarrel Falls!

Plans for GW2 Beta--Server and Sign-Up Information
Posted by ceolstan on 25 April 2012 - 09:47 PM
Basin Plans for Guild Wars 2 Beta--Read how to sign up!!!

Anet has announced the first pre-purchase beta weekend event which will be held this weekend, April 27-29th.  In preparation for this, we are starting to plan how to organize the GW2 AB guild.  Read on for the details.

Servers and The Basin

The information ANet released in the days leading up to pre-purchase indicated that regardless of where you live, you can choose the server you want to play on for your account.  You need to change your server world at login.

The Basin will be playing on the following servers:
  • The Eternal Grove (primary)
  • Steamspur Mountains (secondary)
Ideally we would like to get as many ABers as we can on the same server to be able to play together.  However, we realize that some of the servers may become filled.  In that case, we encourage people to sign up on the secondary server.  When that gets full, move on down the list.  This way, we can concentrate our Basin population as much as possible.

Creating the Basin Guild

We have already made arrangements for the Basin guild to be created shortly upon launch.  Once you have logged in and created an account, sign up in the Basin Beta Guild Sign-Up thread.

If you didn't manage to get onto Eternal Grove, but are instead on Darkhaven, don't worry, we've got the guild and you covered. :)

We will invite you as soon as possible.

Charge!

Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchase April 10
Posted by ceolstan on 13 March 2012 - 07:54 AM
If you haven't yet read on the various fan and news sites, Guild Wars 2 Pre-Purchases are official!

This is very exciting!

Players can opt to pre-purchase one of three different types of editions: digital, digital deluxe, and collector's.  All grant access to beta weekends.  After that, there are a variety of perks.

Needless to say, this is going to be extremely exciting!  Not only will we get a glimpse of the new game, but we also will have a 3 day head start!  This will be a great opportunity for us to build up some guild influence and get those "upgrades" that the pre-purchase announcement mentions.

Hope to see everyone in the betas!

Cheers!   :beer_mug: :beer_mug: :beer_mug: :beer_mug:
