Energy affects a player character's mana, and the percentage chance of doubling mana restored by any mana potion. Player character Energy varies depending on chosen class at start of game:
Player character can increase Energy by allocating attribute points and can also gain bonuses from equipped items, and charms in inventory in Expansion games. Mana gained from each additional point also varies depending on character class:

Typically, a character does not allocate any points to Energy since sustaining enough mana for regular skill usage can ultimately be gained from levelling and item bonuses. However, since 1.13 characters may allocate points early on before re-specialising later. A Sorceress using Energy Shield can also benefit from allocating points to Energy, as might a character whose chosen skill usage and cast rate result in significant mana consumption (such as a War Cry Barbarian).
