Single player characters are stored as local files on your computer. They have the extension <code>.d2s</code>, such as <code>MyBarb.d2s</code>. They can only be played in ''Single Player'' mode as well as in local network (LAN) games via [[Multiplayer#Other Multiplayer|Other Multiplayer]] in the Main menu. They can not be played in [[Multiplayer]] (Battle.net).

The default locations of local character files (also called "save games") are:
