This wiki is here to give the folks of the Amazon Basin community a place to collaborate on ideas, guides, thoughts and Family Guy episodes. If you're looking for enlightenment, you've taken a wrong turn.

== What is a wiki? ==

A wiki is a web site that all users can freely edit. See the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_User%27s_Guide media wiki user guide] for more details.

==What is a wiki?==
Anyone can! Although Editing may be restricted later, but for now it is open. The nature of a wiki is that we can always roll back changes if someone does something we don't like.  If this turns into a hassle, we may restrict editing to only approved account.

Anyone who has [https://www.theamazonbasin.com/forums/index.php?/forums/topic/125734-how-do-i-join-the-basin-wiki/ requested an account] and had that request approved can edit our wiki.

[[File:Blocked users.png|center|thumb|800px|Automatic account creation was disabled due to the significant and sustained increase in abuse in 2011. Only 7 new users went on to make legitimate contributions in the same year, so abusers outnumbered them 220 to 1.]]
First create an account, then use the edit buttons. You can create a new page by just making up a a page name and typing it into the url e.g. www.aphasic.com/wow/basinwiki/YOURNAMEHERE. You can then link to the page from somewhere else by just typing two brackets <nowiki>[[YOUR NAME HERE]]</nowiki>. Note, it's sometimes easier to make the link FIRST, and then just click it and start editing.  See the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_User%27s_Guide media wiki user guide] for more details.

==How do I edit?==
== Ok, I made a new page, where should I put it? ==
+
Once your account request has been approved, log in and click on the Edit tab at the top of the page. You can create a new page by typing a page name into the url (wiki.theamazonbasin.com/index.php/pagename; first letter is automatically capitalized). You can add a link to the new page to an existing page by editing the existing page to include the new page's name in double square brackets ( <nowiki>[[pagename]]</nowiki> ). It's sometimes easier to make the link ''first'', and then just click on it to start editing: see the [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_User%27s_Guide MediaWiki User's Guide] for more details.
For now, links go in the following places:
+
<br>

+
<br>
-Class/race/professions guides -- linked off the appropriate page for that class, race, or skill.
+
==Who is in control?==

+
Anyone with an account can edit existing pages, add new pages, upload files and even change the name of existing pages by moving them. That said, administrators and bureaucrats do have veto power over any aspect should problems arise.
-Instance guides -- under instance guides on the home page
+
<br>

+
<br>
-Everything else -- under general guides on the home page.
+
==Is this an official Basin wiki?==

+
Yeah, please consider this the 'official' Basin wiki. It is always evolving and always changing, but there are no plans to replace this wiki.
A more complex structure may be implemented later, but for now that should do it.

== Who controls the wiki? ==
+
==What happens to content posted?==
Everyone does! It's something hosted for the use of all. That said, Basin admins do have veto power over any aspect should problems arise.
+
Content is going to stay right where it is, it won't be sold or handed off to any other sites.

== Is this an official Basin Wiki? ==

Sorta?

== What's might happen to any content I post on the wiki? ==

The content is going to stay right where it is, it won't be sold or handed off to any other sites. Except! -- the only place it may move is to an official basin wiki when such a beast comes into existance. If the site ever needs to come down for other reasons (unlikely, it's on my own server), I'll gladly send a database export to any member who wants one.
