Diablo II Notation Basic Class Skill Item Ally Quest Area Monster Tale Classic Expansion Resurrected Patch Multiplayer Single Player Hardcore Ladder Difficulty Classic Diablo II was released on 29 June 2000. Classic is played if the Lord of Destruction expansion has not been installed; even if it has, Classic characters can be created by unchecking the Expansion Character box when creating a new character. Classic characters can be converted to Expansion characters. There are separate Ladders for Classic and Classic Hardcore. Basic Absence of the Rite of Passage quest means characters do not need to be a minimum level to advance to later difficulty levels. Player Chance of Blocking is not dependent on character level or Dexterity: it is simply the shield's displayed chance to block (25% Increased Chance of Blocking on Twitchthroe Studded Leather does not apply to shield's displayed chance to block, but it does apply to character screen's displayed chance to block). Resistance penalty for player and mercenary is -20 in Nightmare and -50 in Hell. This applies to the following: Fire Resist Lightning Resist Cold Resist Poison Resist Poison Length Reduced Mana damage [1] Stamina damage [2] Class Only the five original classes are available: Amazon Barbarian Necromancer Paladin Sorceress Skill Blessed Hammer is fully enhanced by +% Damage applied by Might and Concentration. Static Field can continue to be cast on targets with <= 33% life in Nightmare and <= 50% life in Hell. Whirlwind attack rate is unaffected by weapon speed or Increased Attack Speed. Item Stash size is 6x4, not 6x8 as in Expansion. Cannot equip a second weapon, set of weapons, or weapon and shield, to swap weapons using a key or mouse button. The following are not available: Ethereal items [3] Jewels Circlets Charms Class-specific items: Amazon bows, Amazon javelins and Amazon spears Primal helms Shrunken heads Auric shields Orbs Elite item types Runes Affix Different magic and rare affixes are available. The following are unavailable: Chance to Cast Charged suffixes Javelins, throwing axes and throwing knives cannot have magic or rare affixes: they are only low, normal or superior quality. Charsi cannot imbue them as a reward for completing the Tools of the Trade quest. Set Sets containing Exceptional or Elite items are not available. Mercenaries cannot follow characters between Acts. Mercenaries cannot be given items or potions. Mercenary screen is not available, so stats cannot be viewed. Resistance penalty for mercenary is -20 in Nightmare and -50 in Hell. This applies to the following: Fire Resist Lightning Resist Cold Resist Poison Resist Poison Length Reduced Barbarian mercenary is unavailable. Mercenaries cannot be resurrected. Pets cannot follow characters between Acts. Quest Act 5 quests are unavailable. World Event is available, but Diablo does not drop Annihilus Small Charm. Pandemonium Event is unavailable. Area Act 5 areas (including those of the Pandemonium Event) are unavailable. Area levels are different to those in Expansion. Monster Monster types, Super Unique and boss monsters exclusive to Act 5 (including the Pandemonium Event) do not spawn.
