Single player characters are stored as local files on your computer. They have the extension .d2s, such as MyBarb.d2s. They can only be played in Single Player mode as well as in local network (LAN) games via Other Multiplayer in the Main menu. They can not be played in Battle.net Multiplayer.

The default locations of local character files (also called "save games") are:

  • Microsoft Windows (Patch 1.14 and later): C:\Users\<YourWindowsUsername>\Saved Games\Diablo II\
  • Microsoft Windows (Patch 1.13 and earlier): C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Save\ (default)
  • Apple Mac: /Applications/Diablo II/Save/
