Although not as well known for their use of bows and other such ranged weapons, hunters from the Steppes have practiced the use of thrown weapons since earliest times. The open grasslands of their native soil are well suited for taking down game with swift and accurate blows from a hurled blade. It seems a natural evolution and a simple matter for them to have transferred this skill to combat.

  • When throwing a javelin, throwing axe or throwing knife, enhances attack damage and attack rating with chance of critical strike doubling physical attack damage.
  • Overlay normally displayed when successful may be obscured by others (which gave rise to the myth that poison damage prevents it from being applied).


Target overlay when critical damage is applied.


  • Only applies to weapons when thrown: Spear Mastery applies to javelins when used with melee attacks, while Axe Mastery applies to throwing axes when used with melee attacks (these weapons never benefit from both Masteries simultaneously).
  • Throwing Mastery +% Damage is applied twice when throwing a single weapon. [1]
  • Mastery critical strike is mutually exclusive with Critical Strike and Deadly Strike: if one is successful then the others aren't applied. Combined % chance of double physical attack damage is as follows:
