Tich BRP
Introduction
The Basin on Tichondrius uses the Basin Raid Points (BRP) system to distribute loot dropped on raids. Key features of the BRP system:
- It is a zero-sum points system with no inflation. Long-term, frequent raid participants cannot monopolize loot at the expense of less frequent or newer participants.
- Items have a fixed point cost. When an individual loots an item, those points are deducted from his or her total and redistributed to the other people present on the raid.
- Loot distribution is highly proportional to the time you spend raiding. Individuals can enjoy steady progress for each raid they attend without requiring the ceiling of a weighted random system or the strict turns of a list system.
The system has changed several times, and this document sets out the system in place as at 5 April 2006.
Points and item values
Each item will be assigned a fixed point value by the raid leaders. Item values are subject to change if the raid leaders feel it is warranted. Please PM or contact a raid leader privately if you have a problem with how a particular item is valued or notice a discrepancy in the tables.
Each participant in the raid starts with 0 points and is assigned points when another participant loots an item on a raid they attend. The number of points is based on a simple calculation:
Points = (Total point value of item looted) / (number of players on the raid)
This mechanism insures zero inflation, as no more points come into the system than go out.
The raid leaders have the discretion to deem whether or not individuals who miss substantial portions of a raid are eligible for a points distribution for particular boss kills during that raid. Missing the first two or three trash mob pulls will not generally be a problem, but invididuals ported in immediately before a boss kill are not likely to be eligible for point distributions from that particular boss' loot.
When loot drops
When an item drops, the loot master announces the name of each item by calling it on teamspeak and by typing its name in the loot channel. Only information concerned with looting will be present in this loot channel. Once an item is announced, all interested parties will have a chance to type "need" (roughly 30 seconds). The lootmaster will then check the points table to see which interested invidual has the most points. That person loots the item and has the point value of the item deducted from their total and redistributed to the members of the raid.
You are allowed to loot items even if you have negative points (keep in mind since this is a zero sum system, many people will be negative).
If two or more people who 'want' a drop have equal points, they will use a /random 100 to determine who purchases the item.
There is no limit on the number of purples you can loot in one run. You may only loot one item per boss.
Loot priority is as follows: 1. Need Loot: Individuals who want to purchase the item for use on the toon they are currently playing at the raid get first priority.
2.Upgrade (tier2 set items only): If a tier 2 set item drops and no person wishes to pay full price for it, then an individual with the tier 1 set item in that equipment slot may pay an "upgrade" price for the tier 2 item. The upgrade price is the difference in value between the tier 1 and tier 2 items.
3. Twinking: If a Bind on Equip (BoE) item drops, and no individual declares Need or Upgrade loot on that item, then anyone else on the raid may use their points to purchase it for use on an alt.
4. Downgrade (tier1 set items only): If a tier 1 set item drops and an individual already has the tier 2 set item in that equipment slot, they may be awarded the lower-tier item at no cost. This is the only situation where an item can be awarded to someone at no cost.
5. Disenchant: If no one wants an item for the full or upgrade point value and is not eligible for a downgrade loot, then the item is disenchanted.
Guests
We strongly urge all raid guests to join the loot system if they plan to be regular attendees. If guests choose not to join the system, then they will use a /random 1000 roll against all other people in the system who would roll for use if we were using straight random rolls. If an individual in the loot system wins the item, then the system is used to determine the winner. If a guest wins the roll then they are awarded the item.
Guests who win an item in this manner automatically opt in to the loot system. (No person may win more than one item via random roll.)
Guest who have opted into the loot system will enjoy invite preference over guests choose to random roll for their loot.
Point standings and item values
Overall points standings, results from individual raids, point values for particular items, individual loot histories, and other such information will be made easily accessible to all interested parties on a web site. This site will be updated at the end of each raid.
You can see current standings from all previous raids at the BRP website
Example
Druids A, B, and C go to Molten Core. All are new entrants into the system and start with zero points:
A 0.00 B 0.00 C 0.00
Assume that there are no other druids at this particular raid.
A Cenarion Bracer (BoE item) drops off the very first trash mob. This item costs 75 points. All three decide they want the item enough to pay points for it. Since all three have an equal points standing, they /random to see who gets to buy it.
A wins and loots the item, paying 75 points. All members of the raid get 75/40 (1.88) points.
B 1.88 C 1.88 A -73.12
The raid goes on to kill Lucifron and Magmadar before calling it a night. No more druid loot drops, but 150 points of items are looted from Luci and 375 points of items are looted from Maggie. Like everyone else in the raid, our example druids will get (150 + 375) / 40, or 13.12 points.
B 15.00 C 15.00 A -60.00
C can't make the followup raid the next night, but A and B can. The raid kills Gehennas. No Druid loot drops, but 175 points of items are looted. Only 38 people are on the raid this evening, so A and B get 175/38 (4.60) points.
B 19.60 C 15.00 A -55.40
The raid kills Garr, who drops a Cenarion Helm (125 points), another tier 1 hat (also 125 points), and a Brutality Blade (150 points). B has the most points of the two Druids on the raid and takes the hat. A total of 400 points of items are distributed from this Garr kill, and everyone on this raid gets 400/38 (10.52) points.
Standings after the Garr kill:
C 15.00 A -44.87 B -93.87
Note that A and B have exactly the same attendance record, and B is exactly 50 points behind A because he has looted a 125 point item whereas A has looted a 75 point item. (Arithmetic ftw!)
Everyone earned 15 points for their clear of Lucifron and Magmadar. A and B earned slightly more than 15 points for an additional clear of Gehennas and Garr, roughly 30 points total.
It will take Druid A ~2.5 such 30-point Luci-Garr clears to "earn" back the points for his BoE, and B will need about four such clears to earn back the points for his tier 1 hat.
Pricing from 17 June 2005
Pricing will be determined by this formula:
BRP cost = ilvl^2 * slotmod * 1.2 * 0.025
Explanation of terms:
- "ilvl" is the Item Level. It is squared to make higher-level items cost disproportionately more. - Slot mods are from the reverse item engineering thread: http://www.theamazonbasin.com/wow/forums/i...?showtopic=8105 - The 1.2 is the modifier for any purple (blues are 1.1 and greens are 1.0), again from the reverse engineering thread above. - The 0.025 is a constant that scales the values back down to something approaching our old BRP values.
This formula makes higher-level items cost disporportionately more as we get into harder and harder instances that drop epics with a higher base item levels. We pay more to reflect the increased difficulty of the instance and the dedication we have to put into our toons to be able to contribute to a boss kill that can drop an item of that level.
Here are the slot mods:
Head – 100% Neck – 54% Shoulder – 74% Back – 54% Chest – 100% Wrist – 54% Hands – 74% Waist – 74% Legs – 100% Feet – 74% Ring – 54% Trinkets – 68% Shield – 50% Off-hand – 50% Wands - 45% 1h Weapon – 70% 2h Weapon – 110% 1 Hand Melee Weapons for Hunters - 40% 2 Hand Melee Weapons for Hunters - 60% Ranged Weapons for Melee Classes- 40%
You may note that these slot modifiers are not exactly the same as the ones listed in the reverse engineering thread. Weapons and offhands in particular are a bit different to reflect the fact that classes like Warriors, Rogues, and Hunters recieve disproportionately higher boost in power from weapons than armor, unlike spellcasters whose raw power is largely determined by things like +spell and +heal modifiers spread across multiple slots.
