- Monsters and pets can become immune to any of the six damage types when Resist >= 100%.
|
Monster
- Monsters could be inherently immune to all six damage types, although in practice only one is inherently immune to more than two (Pit Lords of the Pandemonium Event are immune to all but physical). Inherent immunities always apply and they are always displayed.
Item
- Some monsters spawn with items whose randomly selected affixes may apply Resist +%, which can result in them becoming immune when this is added to inherent resistance. If a monster can only become immune due to item affixes, that immunity is not displayed.
[1] [2]
Korlic is not poisoned by Rabies in Normal as a combination of his own Poison Resist 70% and PR >= 30% from item affixes makes him immune.
Unique bonus
- Monsters may also become immune due to Resist +% applied by Unique bonuses (any minions are unaffected [3]). However, if two or more immunities are inherent or have already been applied as a result of Resist +% from item affixes or previous Unique bonuses (they are applied in the order in which they are displayed, from left to right [4] [5]), then Resist +% bonus that would result in further immunity is not applied. Bonus is also not applied if doing so would increase any of two or more existing immunities.
1 Spectral Hit alone can never result in immunities, but its bonuses can increase immunities resulting from later bonuses.
- Although Unique bonuses are not applied if there are two or more existing immunities, if monster has less than two immunities and the others are due to item affixes then immunities displayed correspond to any inherent immunity and first applied by Unique bonus(es).

Madawc is damaged and chilled by Glacial Spike in Hell despite displaying Immune to Cold as a second immunity has already been applied by item affixes before Cold Enchanted bonus.
|
- Bosses of Pandemonium Event have immunities and Unique bonuses which are not displayed.
- Ghostly Champions are set to Damage Resist 80%, even when Immune to Physical. However, Immune to Physical will still be displayed. [6] [7]
Although the Barbarian War Cry's physical damage obviously doesn't damage the Immune to Physical Champion Blood Lord, it does damage the 'Immune to Physical' Ghostly Blood Lord since it has actually been set to DR 80%.
Removing immunity
- Skills applying Resist -% can result in Resist < 100%, removing immunity and allowing damage of that type to be applied. However, whenever immunity is inherent or a Unique bonus applying Resist +% contributes, Resist -% applied is only 1/5 of displayed value (rounded down) even if item affixes result in immunity or are required for subsequent Unique bonus to result in immunity. When immunity is removed, displayed text normally disappears.
- Displayed immunity removed even if item affixes mean it is not: Talic's inherent fire immunity may appear to be broken by level 10 Lower Resist (110 - [55/5] = 99), but if he spawns with Ruby Myrmidon Greaves (FR +(31-40)%) then this does not actually happen (110 + 21 - 11 = 120).
- Skills applying Resist -% are still fully effective against acquired immunities to which item affixes alone have contributed.
