Lightning Resist modifies lightning damage by a percentage; LR -100% is the floor, while LR > 99% makes a unit Immune to Lightning.
- Player and mercenary normally have a ceiling of LR 75%, but this can be increased to LR 95% by applying +% Maximum Lightning Resist (although any excess can offset penalties that might otherwise reduce it below this ceiling). Difficulty level penalties of LR -40% in Nightmare and LR -100% in Hell (-20% and -50% respectively in Classic games) also apply to them.
- Lightning damage tends to be the most damaging element, both in terms of average and maximum damage, so resistance tends to be important.

- Several Unique bonuses apply LR bonuses to that monster, in the order in which their labels are displayed. [3] [4] If a bonus results in LR > 99%, it is only applied if a monster has less than two immunities beforehand (in which case it either becomes Immune to Lightning, or increasingly so).
