At what price glory? By sanctifying his weapon with some of his own blood, a Paladin of Zakarum is able to increase his efficiency in combat by forfeiting a portion of his own physical essence. This sacrifice is a symbol of faith that even the lowliest Paladin must submit before the Light, in order that he may prove himself worthy of victory.
Detail
- Although player always bleeds when using Sacrifice, damage to self is only applied if it hits and applies physical damage.
- Damage to self is based on actual physical damage, not potential physical damage: attacking an Immune to Physical target results in no damage to self; if 1,000 physical damage can be applied but it only takes 100 physical damage to kill the target, damage to self is 8, not 80. [1]
- The following do not apply to Sacrifice's physical damage and thus they do not apply to damage to self either:
- Neither point nor percentage damage reduction is applied to damage to self, so they won't reduce it. [4]
- Damage Resist -% from Amplify Damage and Decrepify isn't applied to damage to self, so being cursed won't increase damage to self (although cursing targets will increase damage to self, since DR % is reduced and thus physical damage is increased). [5]
- Both % Life Stolen per hit and Life Tap are applied after damage to self: if damage to self reduces life below zero, death will occur before healing. [6]
- It is safest to assume that maximum life is effectively reduced by 8% of maximum physical damage, and best to minimise the range between minimum and maximum physical damage.
- Due to the impact of difficulty level penalties and drain effectiveness on Life Stolen per hit, casting Life Tap is strongly recommended.
