Assassin can equip a second claw and Barbarian can equip a second one-handed weapon. The following skills attack with both weapons:
- Barbarian and Assassin Werebears (and Barbarian Werewolf) equipping two weapons while using Attack will only attack with primary weapon, but attack animation is displayed for attacks with both weapons. [1]
- All other attacks only use the primary weapon.
|
Primary weapon
Initially, the primary weapon is whichever weapon is equipped first by the player. However, upon entering a game, swapping weapons in an Expansion game, or recovering a corpse after death, the weapon in the left equipment slot (above gloves) is normally equipped first.
Equipping order affects which weapon is the primary weapon, even though contents of equipment slots remain the same.
- Weapon in the left equipment slot is not equipped first if it cannot be equipped before the weapon in the right equipment slot (above boots).
- If the two weapons have a different appearance, whichever is primary can be confirmed by observing that displayed in the character's right hand.
Weapon speed
Weapon speed is calculated using the weapon speed of both weapons:

Right (above boots)

|
[ (WS left + WS right) / 2 ]

[ (WS left + WS right) / 2 ] + (WS right – WS left)

[2]
Equipping primary weapon in the right equipment slot results in bugged calculation of weapon speed when weapons have different weapon speeds:
- Equipping the faster weapon first results in lower weapon speed: faster than the average (WS right < WS left in the table below).
- Equipping the slower weapon first results in higher weapon speed: slower than the average (WS right > WS left in the table below).
The greater the difference, the greater the effect:

Swap weapons
Equipping order of weapons can change upon recovering a corpse after death, but death should hopefully not be frequent enough to make it inconvenient to double-check the preferred weapon remains the primary weapon (quickly remove and replace the preferred secondary weapon). However, entering a game or swapping weapons in Expansion games (press W key by default) can occur much more frequently, and thus ensuring the preferred primary weapon remains so requires more care (since this can affect weapon speed and modifiers applied, particularly casting order of Chance to Cast modifiers).
Left and right equipment slots (above gloves and boots respectively) normally correspond to the weapons held in the character's right and left hand respectively, although the primary weapon is always displayed in the character's right hand, regardless of equipment slot: the Barbarian below initially has the ethereal Colossus Sword equipped first in the right equipment slot because the player did so manually, resulting in it being the primary weapon and displayed in the character's right hand. After entering a game or swapping weapons back and forth, the game always tries to equip the Phase Blade in the left equipment slot first, and since its requirements are met it is now equipped first, becoming the primary weapon and being displayed in the character's right hand.
Equipping order affects which weapon is the primary weapon, even though contents of equipment slots remain the same.
The simplest way to ensure the primary weapon remains so after swapping weapons is to always equip it in the left inventory slot (above gloves) and ensure that its requirements are met without the secondary weapon, and without + Strength, + Dexterity or Requirements -% from socketed jewels or runes. Weapon modifier
When the following modifiers are on a weapon, they only apply to attacks (including Dragon Talon, Dragon Tail and Dragon Flight) made using that weapon:
