Better Chance of Getting Magic Items is a percentage increase to the chance of an item picked to drop from a monster killed or an object searched by the equipping player character, mercenary or pet being magic quality or higher.
- When a mercenary or pet kills a monster, percentage applied is the sum of that equipped by that mercenary or pet and the player character. This includes kills as a result of returned damage from Thorns, Iron Maiden or Spirit of Barbs. However, the player character should normally kill quickly enough to result in more magic (or better) items over time from their own kills, despite the lower percentage (although the mercenary or pet is often allowed to make the killing blow on a boss to maximise the percentage applied).
- It does not apply to monsters killed by temporarily realigned monsters (whether mind blasted, converted, confused or attracted), or to those killed while realigned.
- It also does not apply to monsters killed as a result of attacking Bone Wall or Bone Prison while cursed with Iron Maiden.
- Consequently the chance of that item being low, normal or superior quality is decreased, which may be undesirable if armor and weapons are being sought in which to make Rune Words. Otherwise, it does not have any effect on the chances of a particular item type being picked, so drop chances of items like gems and runes are unaffected, as are those for Exceptional or Elite items and those that are always at least magic quality: charms, jewels, amulets and rings are no more or less likely to drop, but when they do so they are more likely to be Unique, Set or rare quality, where applicable.
- When greater than 10% Better Chance (BC):

- If Set quality is selected for a weapon or armor type with no Set version, a magic item with double its normal durability drops; if Unique quality is selected for a weapon or armor with no Unique version, a rare item with triple its normal durability drops.
