- Freezes target can freeze normal or minion monsters, and chill all other units, when applied with a successful weapon attack, as long as they are not Immune to Cold and they do not have 0 chill effectiveness.
- Bonuses from multiple sources are summed, although when two weapons are equipped only that of the primary or attacking weapon is added (that of the other weapon is ignored).
- Applied by any melee or ranged attack with the exception of Blade Sentinel, Blade Shield and the additional arrows of Multiple Shot (only applied by the original two arrows).

- Freeze or chill length in frames is a random odd number from {27, 29 ... 2*(% Chance) + 25}, viz, 1-9 seconds. [3] [4]
- Length of freezing or chilling is affected by target Cold Resist and difficulty level penalties (1/2 in Nightmare and 1/4 in Hell).
- Applied independently of freeze length and cold length: Freezing Arrow would freeze eligible targets within its 3 1/3 yard radius for ~2 seconds, Freezes target would freeze any eligible target hit by the arrow for 1-9 seconds.
