Revision as of 20:04, 15 March 2025 by DarkMasterMan (talk | contribs) (Blizzard fixed Sanctuary's bonuses against undead to work properly in patch 2.4, I added the relevant notes and also changed the level 1-60 stats table to 1-20, 21-40, 41-60 instead of 1-10, 11-20, etc. I also added a note that Sanctuary is bugged in D2R to ignore non-physical resists in certain scenarios (I believe Pavke discovered this, I might do more research and a forum post to get more indepth info and proper credits at some point).)

This aura causes the Paladin to shine with an inner, holy light. This light is an anathema to the undead, summoned as they are through the machinations of the Prime Evils. The aura carries with it the essence of life and the strength and purity of the Paladin's convictions.

  • Radial magic damage is only applied to hostile undead within radius once every two seconds (as is mana cost). If a hostile undead is within the radius of multiple auras, then the radial magic damage of all of them is applied.
  • Magic Resist isn't pierced: it will still reduce radial magic damage, and Immune to Magic undead won't be damaged.
  • All eligible hostile undead within radius will also be knocked back.
  • Does not knock back or apply radial magic damage to undead bosses Griswold and Radament. [1]
  • + AR Against Undead and +% Damage to Undead aren't applied. [2] Fixed in D2R. [3]
  • Damage Resist of undead is pierced: the supplier's physical damage is applied as though undead have DR 0%, even when Immune to Physical. However, DR % is not pierced when calculating Crushing Blow damage: it remains completely ineffective against Immune to Physical undead. [4] [5] In D2R it also pierces non-physical resistances or immunities of undead in some scenarios, for example a Barbarian with Azurewrath or Lawbringer as his offhand weapon can use Berserk to kill an Immune to Magic Plague Bearer in Hell with his mainhand weapon.
  • Since DR of undead is pierced after DR -% from Amplify Damage or Decrepify is applied, it's redundant when DR <= 0%: if AD or Decrepify don't result in DR <= 0%, then they are redundant. [6]
  • Piercing of hostile undead DR only applies to the supplier's physical damage and not to that of allies: it also applies to undead targets beyond its radius.
