All races start in a small sub area within the level 1-10 zone. These areas are well defined with obvious barriers to the rest of the world such as mountain ranges/tunnels/gates and so forth. You will stay in this area for the first 5 levels or so. Don't forget to do a /who basin and follow the directions on how to join the in game guild.

Take some time to become familiar with your interface. Learn how to chat in guild chat (/g), /say takes you back to talking to your surroundings, /p will allow you to talk to your group when you get one. Learn how to find the guild list in your social interface. Find your inventory (defaults to b ). Find your quest list screen (Default: L)

In these sub-areas there are a number of quests to get you some basic pieces of equipment. It is best to do these quests to get a feel for how to play your toon and get that basic equipment. These quests typically involve the basic quest types that will be repeated throughout the game.

You will have to kill a certain number of a mob type(s). You will need to collect items from a certain mob type. You will need to perform fed-ex type deliveries. You will need to search for a lost/hidden item. You will need to kill a boss in a cave. This last type has proven to be hard for my casters when I have tried to solo it. I'm thinking about creating a tank type to run through a beginner area to see how he does solo.

You will also find a trainer for your class somewhere in the starter sub-area. These trainers can only train the most basic skills/spells for your class. Don't worry, the other trainers outside this area have much more knowledge. This trainer is especially useful for the beginning Warlock as (s)he will have a quest for you to get your first pet summons spell, the Imp.

After training your first new skill you should definitely become more familiar with your interface. Learn how to add new skills to your quickbar. Find your character sheet, skills screen and Talents screen (only available at level 10 or more).

One item in particular that will help your progression is another bag or 4. Having more storage space is indispensible. Keeping your weapons up to date as a melee class will also be at the top of your list, armor is important but less so at low levels. For casters you will want to save your silver to buy spells and skills later in life.

Around level 4-5, when you have exhausted most of your starter quests you will ahve explored the starter sub-area. You should have found a quest that sends you to the town in the level 1-10 zone for your race. This is your ticket to the larger world. From here on out you will want to follow a more class specific guide.
