About the Basin
adapted from TPJs Announcement: Becoming a member of The Basin
Amazon Basin Members & Community Members
This community is made up of Amazon Basin Members (ABM) and Community Members (CM). Both play very important roles in what we do here and how we do it. If you heard about us from someone or bumped into us in-game, then stopped by and registered for our forums – you are a CM. CMs make up the majority of people who participate in this community – by far. They are the ‘meat and potatoes’ if you will. If they like what they find here, they stick around. If they prefer the ‘win at all costs’ crowd, then they’ll figure out they don’t really belong and eventually move on.
ABMs were all once CMs. They were part of the ones who liked what they found here enough to stick around. They eventually decided they wanted to get involved in the administration portion of the community – they wanted to spend more time here making things work better.
Benefits to Being a Community Member
As a CM, you can post on our forums and participate in our in-game guilds. You will have every opportunity to become a very important pat of The Basin – from organizing activities, writing guides, and/or forming groups in-game for specific tasks. Another benefit (some may say) is that you are not required to help make decisions about how the guild is run. All you have to do is show up, play nice, and show some class. That’s it.
Benefits to Being an Amazon Basin Member
ABMs enjoy the same privileges as CMs with regard to forum participation and in-game activities. The major difference between the two is that ABMs decided they wanted to become more of a permanent fixture here. As such, they’ve gone through the process of petitioning for membership. The process of becoming an ABM is outlined below and can take anywhere from 3 months to a year. Since CMs have the ability to fully participate in our in-game guilds, only those who really want to have more control over how this place is run actually need to apply.
Getting into The Basin’s Guild Wars in-game guild
Anyone who has already registered on our GW forums can become a member of The Basin’s Guild Wars in-game guild. The in-game guild is comprised of ABMs, CM, Officers, etc. Once you’ve registered on our forums and said ‘Hi’ in our Hospitality Suite forum, post your forum name // toon name in the In-Game Guild Sign-Up thread. One of The Basin’s In-Game Officers will get you taken care of.
Guidelines for Becoming an Amazon Basin Member (ABM)
To become a member of The Amazon Basin, you must be recommended by members already in the guild. This is accomplished by spending time playing with our members and posting/interacting with others in our forums.
Since this process is carried out by The Basin members as a whole, please understand the length of time involved in getting a recommendation may not be a 1 week process. We are always looking for new friends to play with. Time spent playing with current members and posting in our forums is never ill spent. It's the time you spend doing these things that help you and us get to know each other better.
In-Game Etiquette
The Basin does not have a fixed set of rules and regulations. However, our About Us states that members “conduct themselves in a manner which promotes the fun of the game.” Whiners, hoarders, and loners are no fun to play with in cooperative games, so bear that in mind as you play with us. Guild Wars is populated with players who are “no fun”, and if there's any doubt as to what's “fun” and what's “no fun”, don't be afraid to ask.
Members of this guild find a spirit of consideration and cooperation in Basin grouping that is unparalleled in powergamer guilds. Many of you may not have experienced this in online games, so if this is you, we hope that you find playing with Amazon Basin Members as rewarding as we have. Remember though, you're in the games to check us out as well. Don't feel the need to be someone you're not. Relax, enjoy yourself, and have fun while playing - we always do!
Getting the Ball Rolling
As mentioned above, the choosing of new members will be a collective decision of the Basin members that have played with you and can take quite some time. Here are some additional guidelines:
- Make sure you have requested membership in our Membership Request forum.
- Monitor your progress in the Petitioner Progress forum - please do not e-mail members to inquire about membership.
- Be yourself in our games. Have fun, chat with others, and help those in your group. We're not looking for great players, we're looking for friends to play with.
- Please do not whisper or PM Basin members looking for a 'push' in getting into the guild.
- Be patient, this is not meant to be a process that happens quickly; we really wish to get to know you as well as possible.
- Don’t forget to introduce yourself to other members who join games while you are playing. The more familiar we are with you the easier the process will be for everyone.
- Participating in our Public Forums is another excellent way for our members to get to know you.
- You will be sent an e-mail by a Basin administrator when a decision is made about membership. This decision will be based on how well your play style meshes with the general Basin style.
If you have additional questions about what type of players we are looking for, any additional requirements we may have, or are interested in what others have said about our guild and our game play, please drop by our Hospitality Suite forum. Many non-members have posted their take on the guild as well as stories about the games they have played with us.
Hope to see you in our forums or in our games,
Thomas Penfield Jackson
