A young treasure hunter once sought his fortune in a raid for Barbarian gold on Mount Arreat. Hearing tales of the Barbarian people's expertise in close combat, he hired a phalanx of mercenary spearmen to accompany him, thinking their long spears would force the Barbarian warriors to fight from a distance. He soon learned his mistake as a single Barbarian warrior was enough to slaughter his entire party. Ambushing the raiding party from a patch of scrub grass, the Barbarian leapt over them, slaying one whilst airborne, and skewering two more as he landed. Before the would-be thief could draw a single breath, all of his hired lancers had been dispatched. It was a long walk home.
Detail
Barbarian leaps over bars in Flayer Dungeon (presumably the ceiling is thick enough to allow him to smash through it without breaking the surface of the upper floor).
- There is no stamina loss when leaping.
- Movement speed does not affect time spent leaping: it is always equivalent to base run speed. [1] Leaping animation itself has minimum length of 15 frames, with take-off in the sixth frame and landing in the twelfth frame. [2]
- While leaping, can still be hit by melee attacks and radial effects like auras, curses and explosions when within range.
- Missiles cannot normally collide with Barbarian while leaping, whether they are static like ground fires or fired horizontally or vertically. However, he can still be hit by missiles fired by ranged unit when directly above it as it fires. [3]
- Hit checks are still performed for attacks that require them, and blocking is still fully effective while leaping.
- No Chance to Cast modifiers apply while leaping, although Chance to Cast on Attack, on Striking, When You Kill an Enemy and When You Level-up are applied by the attack.
- Cannot switch weapons or access inventory, potions or other skills while leaping.
- Selected target must be outside melee range before leaping, otherwise Attack is performed. Target must be within melee range upon landing to execute Leap Attack. Chance of target moving out of range before landing can be reduced by equipping weapons with longer range.
- Successful attack always knocks back eligible target. Overlay displayed is the same as that used by Bash, Charge and Crushing Blow.
Overlay upon successful attack.
- Applies 17% damage to players, as expected. [4]
- Only weapon type affects length of Leap Attack sequence: does not speed up or slow down with any positive or negative attack rate modifiers.

- Minimum sequence length (and thus maximum attack rate) while attacking continuously cannot be achieved if target is selected or knocked back. Instead, place cursor at Barbarian's feet to minimise leaping distance to 2 yards (three sub-tiles), while selecting Leap Attack on right mouse button and holding it down without selecting a target, or while selecting it on left mouse button and holding it down with the Shift key without selecting target. This allows Leap Attack to be used against a target even when within melee range, and automatically selects new targets once previous targets have been knocked back or killed.
- When obstructed by targets, hold down Alt button to prevent target from being selected (although any items on the ground may be selected instead).
- When attacking a selected target, it can be attacked continuously as long as it is knocked back out of melee range. Since leaping takes 7 frames longer, minimum attack intervals are as follows:

- When attacking a selected and stationary target, positions for landing adjacent to target and final destinations of target after being knocked back are as follows:
Size 2 targets will normally end up within range 6 when Barbarian lands directly above, below or to left or right, otherwise they will be within range 5; size 3 targets will normally always end up within range 6 after being knocked back. Range adder 3-4 weapons place him in these ranges; only range adder 0-2 weapons normally place him outside, allowing consecutive Leap Attacks.
Source
Korlic uses Leap Attack for mobility, but does not perform an actual attack.
