Never forget that your ultimate purpose here in Kurast is to destroy Mephisto. The ancient Horadrim imprisoned the Lord of Hatred inside the Guardian Tower that is located within the Temple City of Travincal.
Know this, friend. The only way to gain entry to Mephisto's prison is to destroy the artifact known as the Compelling Orb.
Mephisto used this device to control the Zakarum Priests and their followers. The Orb can only be destroyed with an ancient flail imbued with the spirit of the one incorruptible priest.
Soon after his imprisonment, Mephisto worked his evil corruption on the Zakarum priesthood. All were turned to his dark ways, save one - Khalim, the Que-Hegan of the High Council.
Mephisto directed the other Council priests to slay and dismember Khalim and then scatter his remains across the Kingdom. The Priest Sankekur succeeded Khalim as Que-Hegan, eventually becoming the embodiment of Mephisto here on the mortal plane.
The corrupted High Council fashioned an Orb to control the rest of the Zakarum faithful and used their powers to hide the lair of their master from mortals.
Your task is to collect the scattered relics of Khalim - his Heart, his Brain, and his Eye. Then, using the Horadric Cube, transmute Khalim's Flail with his relics.
Once this is accomplished, you must destroy the Compelling Orb with Khalim's Will to open the way into the corrupt sanctum of Mephisto

- This quest is not mandatory in multiplayer as long as one allied player has already completed it in a previous game. In this case, other allied players can use a Town Portal cast by this player to access and activate waypoint on Durance of Hate Level 2 once they have killed High Council in the Blackened Temple. Fixed in D2R. [1]
- Exit to Spider Forest is on northeast side of Kurast Docks. When exiting for the first time there is a brief encounter with the Dark Wanderer, who dematerialises and spawns some Flesh Beasts.
- Kurast always lies to northeast: follow river towards it, only venturing away from riverbank down tracks into jungle when necessary to search for something, or when river becomes dead end.
Khalim's Eye
Khalim's Eye can be found in Spider Cavern in Spider Forest.
Entrance to Spider Cavern can be found in jungle clearing at end of track leading away from river. Waypoint and entrance to Arachnid Lair can be found together in a similar clearing.

Khalim's Eye always drops from golden chest located in southern quadrant of Spider Cavern (below entrance), and requires 1x1 inventory space to pick up.
Ahh... Khalim's Eye! Only it can reveal the true path to Mephisto.
Place the Eye in the Horadric Cube along with Khalim's other relics - the Heart, the Brain, and the Flail.

Khalim's Heart
Khalim's Heart can be found in Flayer Dungeon Level 3 in Flayer Jungle. It may be possible to enter Flayer Jungle directly from Spider Forest without going through Great Marsh, so Spider Forest should be searched thoroughly before entering Great Marsh.
- Advisable to cast Town Portal at entrance and find and activate waypoint before venturing underground: it can be found in another jungle clearing at end of track leading away from river, near entrance to Swampy Pit Level 1.
- Stairs down to Flayer Dungeon Level 2 and Flayer Dungeon Level 3 are normally found most quickly by turning left from stairs from previous level. Beware: Undead Flayers have 3/8 chance of being selected on each level, so there's ~76% ( 1 - 5/8 3 ) chance of them being selected on at least one level.
- Khalim's Heart always drops from golden chest located in one of corners or center of Flayer Dungeon Level 3, and requires 1x1 inventory space to pick up.
This is most fortunate! Khalim's Brain knows Mephisto's weakness.
Place it in the Horadric Cube along with Khalim's other relics - the Eye, the Heart, and the Flail.

Khalim's Brain
Khalim's Brain can be found in Sewers Level 2, beneath Kurast Bazaar and Upper Kurast. Follow river through Flayer Jungle to entrance to Lower Kurast in northeast.
Exit to Kurast Bazaar is on northeast edge of Lower Kurast, in north or east corner. Once in Kurast Bazaar, search for waypoint before going down into Sewers Level 1.
There are four entrances to Sewers, two in Kurast Bazaar and two in Upper Kurast.

Icehawk Riftwing is a Cold Enchanted Teleportation Super Unique Gloom Bat guarding sewer lever opening stairs to Sewers Level 2. Always Immune to Cold (175%) in Hell. Accompanied by seven minions in Normal, eight in Nightmare and nine in Hell, all are Immune to Cold (100%) in Hell.

- More often than not, stairs down to Sewers Level 2 can be found on periphery of Sewers Level 1: only venture away from edges once this possibility has been exhausted.
- Click on sewer lever to open stairs to Sewers Level 2. Khalim's Brain always drops from golden chest to left of entrance, and requires 1x1 inventory space to pick up.
Sewers Level 2 always has same layout.
You have found Khalim's Heart, and it still bears the courage to face Mephisto!
Place it in the Horadric Cube along with Khalim's other relics - the Eye, the Brain, and the Flail.

Khalim's Flail
Khalim's Flail is always dropped by first Super Unique Council Member killed when completing the Blackened Temple quest in Travincal. If player does not have Horadric Cube, one will be dropped by second Super Unique Council Member killed.
Kurast Causeway and Travincal always have same layout, with waypoint to left of Causeway and Blackened Temple containing Compelling Orb guarded by High Council at opposite end.
Once properly imbued, Khalim's Flail can destroy the Compelling Orb and reveal the way to Mephisto.
Place it into the Horadric Cube along with Khalim's relics - his Heart, his Brain, and his Eye. Then, transmute them to carry out Khalim's Will.

Place all Khalim's relics alone together in Horadric Cube to transmute Khalim's Will.
Masterfully done, hero! You have crafted Khalim's Will. Employ it to destroy the Compelling Orb and open the way to Mephisto.

Equip it and attack Compelling Orb in north corner of Blackened Temple to destroy it.
Reward
Destruction of Compelling Orb causes stairs by back wall to lower to reveal entrance to Durance of Hate Level 1. Freed from compulsion, Zakarum Zealots will now flee upon sight of character.
